Why Rockford?

The Family Medicine Residency program is a University-sponsored program based at SwedishAmerican Hospital, a community teaching hospital in Rockford.  All residency faculty members hold appointments with the University. The program began in 1972 and is an unopposed 7/7/7 program.  The program has graduated more than 300 family physicians since its inception, the majority of whom practice in Illinois.  The Family Health Center (FHC), the residency outpatient center, treats a predominantly underserved population and has over 25,000 annual outpatient visits.  Strengths of the program include procedural training, strong OB experience, and the care of vulnerable populations. After its last ACGME site review, the program received the maximum five-year accreditation.
