History of the College
Since 1972, the College of Medicine at Rockford has focused on building an academic medical institution committed to education and advocacy, dedicated to research and continuous innovation, and centered on clinical service in the surrounding communities.
Located on a beautiful 20-acre, wooded site, the College provides students with their second, third and fourth years of medical education. Students spend their first year on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus and transfer to Rockford to finish their medical education. The College has become a center for internationally recognized research efforts funded through grants awarded by government agencies, private foundations and other resources.
Today, the College is growing into a regional health sciences center. The campus is home to the regional University Outreach and Public Service office, a new regional UIC College of Pharmacy program, the UIC College of Nursing advanced degree program and Health Systems Research.
In the summer of 2008, the College will break ground on a state-of-the-art expansion project that will add classrooms, enhanced library and study areas, new research facilities, conference rooms for symposia, and a standardized patient suite to our existing facilities.
